What does an Event Catagory do?

Event categories

Event categories allow you to link multiple events, often named as passepartout or season ticket. You can only add an event category when you create an event. Once created, it cannot be added afterwards. So think carefully beforehand if you might want to offer a passepartout later in the year/season. It is therefore often advisable to create an event category directly for each event. Should you need it, you have it. Should you not need it, it won't hurt.

The event category you create should be reflected in both the individual underlying event and the passepartout/season ticket. For example, at football clubs, an event category ‘Season 23/24’ is created and set at both the Seasoncard and the underlying single matches.

In this way, seats booked and barcodes loaded from the subscription are directly ‘booked through’ to the underlying events.

‘PLAYING’ WITH EVENT CATEGORIES

With football clubs in particular, it is common to use different seasoncards. Think on business seasoncards, staff seasoncards, etc. If you give all these seasoncards the same event category, all seats will be booked correctly between them.

Now it can happen that e.g. for cup matches, the club indicates that all business seasoncards have access on their own seasoncard, but that regular season card holders have to get a ticket for a (private) seat. To avoid having to work with exports and imports, you should think about what kind of event categories you want to create before the season starts.

The example below shows how to set this up in advance. You create one standard event category that applies to all season tickets and underlying events, e.g. Season 23/23. Then you set an additional event category for each season ticket, in the example below called Cup BUS 23/24.

Note: at passport/season ticket level you can set more event categories, for underlying single event you cannot set more than 1.

Next comes a cup competition, then you have 4 variants:

  1. All seasoncard holders have access on their own seasoncard => then you create the cup match with the Season 23/24 category, as that is linked to everyone
  2. Regular seasoncard holders have access on their own seasoncard => then you create the cup match with the category Cup SCC 23/24 (situation.2)
  3. Business seasoncard holders have access on their own season ticket => then create the cup match with the category Cup BUS 23/24 (situation.3)
  4. No one has access on their own seasoncard, everyone has to buy a ticket => then create the cup match without event category
