How do I use tracking presets?

GTM Presets

To make setting up Google Tag Manager easier for you, we have prepared several presets covering the most commonly used advertising and analytics platforms: Google Analytics. Google Ads, TikTok, Snapchat and Facebook Pixel. Of course, you are free to add other platforms yourself.

This folder includes the setup of 2 GTM presets, which are called containers. We have the GTM Container Basic and the GTM Container Advanced:

GTM Container (preset)

How do I setup the basic GTM Container?

The GTM Container Basic includes setting up tracking for Google Analytics (specifically GA4) and Google Ads.
The container is a set of presets for the most frequent triggers and tags used in these two tracking solutions.

You can start setting this up if you have already done the following:

Before you can start you will need:

  • GTM account
  • Google Analytics account, including a GA4 property
  • GTM ID connected in your Ticketing application
    • This means you have entered your GTM Container ID in our ticketing application, so you can start tracking your events & ticket-shops. You can find this ID in your Google Tag Manager account, it always start with 'GTM'.

Setting up the container:

  1. Open Google Tag Manager and log in to your Google account.
  2. Save the following JSON file to your computer (this file contains the tracking container/template):
    This link.

Save the JSON file by right-clicking one of the following links and selecting 'Save link as':
    1. GTM Container Basic
      Google Analytics, Google Ads
    2. GTM Container Advanced
      TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook Pixel
  3. Go to 'Admin'
  4. Selected the right account and workspace, if you haven't already.
  5. Select ‘Import Container

  6. Select the JSON-file and create or choose a workspace.
  7. To verify that the settings are accurate, click "Overwrite."
You can also select "Merge", but then there is a high likelihood of errors, as the container could conflict with your current GTM setup.
  8. Select 'Confirm' to proceed.

Connecting your tracking

To activate a container, you will have to connect your various Tracking solutions with tags (E.g. Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Google Ads).

  1. Navigate to 'Workspace'
  2. Navigate to 'Folders'

  1. Navigate to 'Constants'
This will present an overview of the one constant per tracking platform. If you set up the Basic container this will result in constants for Google Analytics and Google Ads. If you set up the Advanced container this will result in constants for Snapchat, Facebook and the TikTok pixel

  2. Select the the constant of the tracking platform you want to use. Upon opening a constant, replace the tracking ID (xxxxx) into your own tracking ID, to enable tracking for this platform.

TIP: If you use the same Google Analytics key for the website in your Ticketshop, you can cross-track the platforms.

  1. You can Preview and test the containers with Google Tag Assistant.
  2. Submit and publish your changes.

You are now ready to start tracking! You can check your configuration by opening one of your tracking platforms.
E.g. You can check the configuration of your Google Analytics setup, by creating a test purchase in your shop and reviewing your realtime dashboard in Google Analytics.

COMMON MISTAKES:

  • Duplicate data
    • Due to duplicate configuration of tracking pixels. You might have not removed the tracking pixels from your event settings. You can only use the GTM tracking pixel, all the other tracking applications are handled by GTM and should not be filled in in the ticketing dashboard!
  • GTM & tracking platform updates
    • Every tracking platform, GTM included, does many updates throughout the year. Some of these updates could affect your tracking data. If you're tracking is not going as planned, always check if something has updated in the tracking platform. You can check the latest updates in the release notes of the tracking platform in question.
